Never-Before-Seen Stage of Planet Birth Revealed
Astronomers studying a newborn star have caught a detailed glimpse of planets forming around it, revealing a never-before seen stage of planetary evolution.
Large gas giant planets appear to be clearing a gap in the disk of material surrounding the star, and using gravity to channel material across the gap to the interior, helping the star to grow. I would just like to point out that the beginning and end of Spirited Away creep me out in the most delicious way possible. I’ve always been a fan of fairy tales, and not just the Grimm and Anderson stuff, almost all my life. Like the honestly faerie court stories.
Themes you see in those reflect strongly in this movie, and comparing them side by side just makes it that much more stark.
Often times you hear that if you get sucked into the fairy realm, you shouldn’t eat their food. It gives them power over you. More often than not, heroes finally escape the fairy realm after what they perceive to be a very short time (a night or a week)…
…only to find that seasons or years have passed.

This always freaked me out a little as a kid. Like the OP, I couldn’t help but wonder how long REALLY passed. I always pretended it was something like a week but… Judging by that moss, I can’t say for sure.
A week? Try much MUCH /MUCH/ longer. The plants are a good indicator but a better one is the statue. We’re seeing it from the same angle in each shot. Look in the first one before she enters, it’s not NEW but you can tell what it is.
Now look at the second frame. It’s so eroded it’s just a dull, flat stone.
That thing is solid stone, that must have taken up to, if not more than, a DECADE to wear down that much.
Not to mention that there are new trees next to the car. Just remember how long it actually takes for trees to grow real quick.
Evidence is suggesting they were in there for maybe around 20-30 years.
Okay, now I’m wigging out, I always was just like “Oh haha, they were just gone for like a few days,” but it always bothered me because I was like, what must the movers have thought when they never showed up?
But I never noticed the statue, and how it’s a completely smooth rock now. I just. Oh my god. Oh my fucking god. Still reeling. Can you even imagine what it must be like to lose 30 years of your life, to find out that your best friend, who gave you a flower before you left to move somewhere else, is now a middle-aged adult who probably has kids of her own, or that your grandparents have died, or that your extended family has thought you were dead for decades, but you haven’t aged at all.

I feel like maybe it hasn’t been quite decades. I mean, the car still started. Maybe the newer-looking one they first come across is the beginning of the enchantment. I think if it had sat there for decades, surely someone would have found it and taken it, or the oil would have broken down a bit.
Not to mention the fact that the car has just a few leaves on it. I think after decades it’d be a bit more covered, and probably have a few more things living in it.
